Plenty of punch in this Ormes de Pez, full of rich ripe black fruits, traces of exotic spices of cinnamon and saffron from the heat of the summer, and brilliant value if looking for personality and appellation signature in St Estèphe. Blend completed with 3% Petit Verdot.

Château Ormes de Pez is an estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of the Haut-Médoc. It was formerly classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, but when this tier was removed in 2011, became a part of the marketing group Les Exceptionnels. Ormes de Pez is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The estate is located in the north of Saint-Estèphe near the village of Pez, where there is a mild maritime climate thanks to the influence of both the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. There are 35 hectares (87 acres) of vineyards – Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for 54 percent and is mainly planted on gravelly soils, while Merlot makes up 37 percent on sandy clay soils. The rest is planted to Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and is then aged in French oak, around half of which is new.
Château Ormes de Pez was the first to be bought by the Cazes family in 1940. It is now part of Société Jean-Michel Cazes along with Château Lynch-Bages and Cordeillan-Bages.
