Awards "The 2019 Camensac has only improved since I tasted it earlier this year, adding floral aromas of violet and rose to its attractive bouquet of dark berries and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a lively, concentrated wine that concludes with a long, penetrating finish." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Aromas of ripe berries and baking spices with hints of hazelnuts, leather and bark. Medium-bodied and tight, with chewy tannins and a velvety texture. Compact and firm with chocolatey undertones. Needs some time to open up. 55% cabernet sauvignon and 45% merlot. Try after 2024." - James Suckling

"Black core, deep crimson rim. Fragrant with black fruit and just a little leafy. Really bone dry, fine-boned but builds to a chewy finish. Dry freshness on the finish." - Jancis Robinson

"The 2019 de Camensac is more backward on the nose compared to its peers. Gradually unfurls with broody black fruit, mixed with Earl Grey and freshly rolled tobacco scents, tertiary in nature. Conversely the palate is brighter, equipped with a solid backbone and vibrant black fruit. What I appreciate is the slightly brittle texture towards the classically-styled finish. Huge potential for this superb Haut-Médoc." - Vinous

"Milk chocolate, cherry fruit, plums and blackcurrant sweets on the nose. This has a lovely texture, tannins are on the ripe, plush, chewy side and they do completely coat the mouth but this has a lovely perfumed aromatic to the fruit profile on the palate. Feels pretty, but also quietly powerful. Dense and driven still with a touch of austerity around the edges towards the finish. Give it time to soften more but there is lovely fruit definition here. Good winemaking. Eric Boissenot consultant. Tasted twice. Drinking Window 2023 - 2041" - Decanter

Jane Anscon - Decanter: A classified growth that can offer excellent value in the best vintages. This has full on blackberry and redcurrant fruits, there are fresh acidities running through it that make the tannins close down very tightly on the finish. This is highly promising, has enticity sapidity and savoury Médocain-style fruit character. 91/100 points.

Château Camensac is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Haut-Médoc region, just over the border from Saint-Julien. It was ranked as a fifth growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. After some decades of relative obscurity the wine is now widely regarded as one to watch, and usually combines solidity and suppleness, while showing plenty of blackcurrant.

The estate has around 75 hectares (185 acres) of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted in an approximate 60:40 split. Vineyards are largely continguous; the railway line divides the main blocks from the "Lagrange" plots, which are adjacent to Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien. Soils are predominantly gravel (with a zone of sandy gravel) and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon; areas of chalky clay around the borders of the property are where most of the Merlot blocks are situated.

Harvest is undertaken manually and, after sorting, fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. After blending, the grand vin is aged for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, of which around 40 percent are new.

Château Camensac has was bought in 2005 by the Merlaut family who also own Chasse-Spleen and Gruaud-Larose. It had previously been owned by the Rioja-based Forner family of Marques de Caceres fame.
